Catching Up? Where To Watch Award Season's Biggest Wins & Snubs
If you were among the many watching the Golden Globes last week, there were plenty that sounded promising and even a few you might have expected to hear more about that slipped through the cracks. If you’re wanting to fill in some blanks in plenty of time for the Oscars, I have you covered.
The Globes cover both television and film, so I’ll make sure to note which ones would fall in the cinema category so you don’t get bogged down in a billion episodes that aren’t going to be among the nominees when the Oscar nods come out.
The accolades for The Banshees of Inisherin are well deserved. While it may not be for everyone, the performances - specifically Colin Farrell’s - are rock solid, there’s so much dark comedy in the well-written script and, frankly, who doesn’t want to stare at gorgeous Irish scenery for a while? Everything Everywhere All At Once is one that got plenty of nominations but deserved far more statues than it received. Michelle Yeoh being highlighted most is appropriate, though. Despite there not being a weak link in the cast, she was a total standout.
I wish there wasn’t just one category for animated films. That grouping is stacked but only one gets any glory. No acting awards or anything. Nada. Turning Red is adorable, Puss in Boots was a delightful surprise and Marcel the Shell had me crying and laughing throughout the whole tale.
Most of my snubs landed in the tv category, but I have to shout out one I feel didn’t get enough love: The Menu. It’s twisted, Ralph Fiennes is unsettling and Anya Taylor-Joy is captivating. People definitely slept on this one. And since I haven’t seen roughly half the television entries, I won’t focus on those, other than to say one extremely important thing: Meghann Fahy gave the best performance of the entirety of The White Lotus and she was very much snubbed from both the nominations and therefore the wins. But that will be a dissertation-length post for another time.
