Let's cut to the chase here. The one-second clip of Henry Cavill punching the air to killer sound effects in the trailer for this Mission Impossible installment screams action movie. Thankfully, it isn't a misrepresentation.
Think about an action film trope. Any of them. All of them. Now think about all of them happening twice, leaning into it hard and taking control over them. That's Mission Impossible: Fallout. There's everything from double-triple-quadruple(??) crossing, a mission explanation worthy of a video game introduction and chase scenes in at least three or four modes of transportation. It doesn't get better than that.
The simplest way to describe the plot of this movie is just to say Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is given a mission, should he choose to accept it, and CIA-trusted Walker (Cavill) is supposed to come along to babysit, because Hunt may have screwed up a bit recently. And then...cue the action movie.
The dialogue for this film is easily the worst part of it. Phrases like "just walk away" and "don't make me go through you" are bandied about. At times it's as if the script could have been generated by a bot who was fed 250 other random action movies. And yet, it really doesn't matter. The film is pretty beautiful to watch and scenes are stolen by the likes of Vanessa Kirby and Simon Pegg, which are both welcome interjections to some sequences that occasionally seem a little too long.
If you've been craving a fast-paced film that doesn't feature either a superhero or the Rock (but why would you be mad about that?), MI6 has you covered. And whether you're a fan of the franchise or not, it'll be hard to tear your eyes away from the screen, wondering when the next person is going to be forced to punch someone, jump on a motorcycle or steal some plutonium. Don't worry, you won't wait long. Just give it another minute.
