If you find yourself yearning for the halls of Downton Abbey or the swoonworthy existence of Mr. Darcy, Netflix's newest release has you covered. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society may be a crazy long name, but everything about this movie makes it worth getting through saying it. It's a slightly more modern take on the period drama: beautiful British actors, a soothing score, romance and sweeping, magnificent landscapes. What more could you want?

Lily James shines, unsurprisingly, in a role that you could almost believe her Downton Abbey character could have stepped into after the show's end. She floats through the story with ease, convincing as both a chic city writer and a country island adventurer. The chemistry between her and every member of the cast is wonderful, be it friend, foe or romantic partner, most of all Huisman's Dawsey Adams. (Dawsey/Darcy, anyone?)

Just when you think you have a handle on the story and can see the end, there's a slight twist of mystery. Guernsey manages to work well with holding interest on what seemingly could be a simple historical romance. There's an element of intrigue and mystery, and while the end may be a bit predictable, it isn't always obvious how you're going to get there. Every step through the plot is a delightful adventure through post World War II era England.

Don't overlook this gem of a movie solely because it didn't end up in theaters. If you have a Netflix subscription, two hours and a desire to relax, it's well worth your time. Guernsey may be a bit of standard fare, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. Let this movie entertain you while you wait for the period movies of award season or the actual Downton Abbey reunion. It won't disappoint.
