It's faster, it's furious-er, it's family-er, it's funnier. Everything you'd expect from a Fast and Furious franchise film appears in this eighth installment.
Granted, this is not the next Best Picture winner and may not be trying to convey a deeper meaning. It's an action movie with killer stunts, a myriad of quips and so much property damage that it's almost unfeasible.
The latest movie creates an interesting plot that intertwines favorite characters from Fast and Furious-es past while introducing some new faces that may have many more ties to the past that gets slowly, methodically revealed throughout the 2+ hours of screen time.
There's something awe-inspiring about this movie, whether it's due to the sheer amount of cars that get thrown around like rag dolls or the easy rapport all the actors seem to have with one another to work and play off one another flawlessly.
Somehow, even though the main story and themes don't differ all too much from previous films, they manage to still inject some freshness into the explosions and speeding. There are new faces, higher stakes and different landscapes to hold your attention, even as you smile at the familiarity of Dom seriously discussing the importance of family, members of the team bickering like siblings or Hobbs calling someone a "sumbitch."
Fate of the Furious is not a short movie by any means, but for at least half of it, the audience will be on the edge of their seats, unsure if any member of the team is safe from the absolutely insane plots they attempt to pull off.
"It's crazy. It's dangerous." Therefore, they do it.
